The heating of the cut material is the first technological phase in the process of artificial drying. As it is already clear from the name of the phase, the goal of heating is to gradually increase the temperature of the cut material from the initial (external) temperature to the initial drying temperature. The temperature of the wood during the heating phase is “late” for the air temperature, because the material cannot be heated immediately. As the temperature rises, the strength of the wood decreases, and the rate of water evaporation from the surface of the wood increases.
